Mobile Carnival Museum, Mobile, AL

Day tripping in Mobile proved to be a fun time. After asking people about the older parts of Mobile, we were directed to Government Street. We unexpectedly ran into a museum that celebrates Mardi Gras all year round!

The Mobile Carnival Museum is a history museum that chronicles over 300 years of Carnival and Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama. (Did you know Mardi Gras originated in Mobile?) The museum is housed in a historic mansion once owned by the Bernstein-Bush families.

A short ten minute film clued us in on the history of Mardi Gras and an audio tour on our phones went into great detail about the exhibits. We toured the Gift Shop, an actual float, and were completely mezmorized by the color and intricacy of the costumes and the robes of the Kings and Queen of Carnival past. The exhibits and historical photographs, some from 1886, are a must see if you are in Mobile!
