Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge, Gulf Shores, AL.

The refuge was established as a habitat for non-game birds during their migrations North and South. Bon Secour is comprised of beaches and sand dunes, scrub forest, fresh and saltwater marshes, fresh water swamps, and uplands.

A Heron wandered down the beach as we played in the water at 6am. Pelicans were fishing and a dolphin swam around us. Early morning was absolutely beautiful and quiet, except for a few fishermen. (Um, and the retired gentlemen jogging down the beach in a Speedo Thong…..)

The trails were under repair as well as the Dunes while we were there, so we did not get to explore far. I’m kind of glad that we did not wander off the trail too far. You’ll see why in another post. 🙂
